Student Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)
Claire is currently training as a Pluralistic counsellor, which means they’re assembling a toolkit of ideas from many different therapeutic approaches. By bringing together your knowledge of what does and doesn’t work for you and their knowledge of those different approaches, you will be able to work together to find the combination of tools that best matches what’s meaningful and helpful for you.
That might involve aspects of exploring the past, processing the present, or keeping the focus on where you want to be in the future. It might involve building a non-judgemental space where difficult thoughts and feelings can have words put to them, it might involve searching for deeper insight into why things are the way they are, or it might involve identifying practical steps you can take to make changes in your life. The exact combination of tools that proves most useful will be unique to you and your current situation, and can be adjusted throughout the course of therapy depending on what feels helpful in each particular moment.
Claire has a background in teaching English as a foreign language both here in Scotland and in Japan, where they lived and worked for seven years. They’ve also volunteered at a rehabilitation service for people with acquired brain injury and taught at a school for people with various physical, intellectual and learning disabilities, so have experience in meeting all kinds of people where they are at and working together with them to find a shared language or way of working that suits all parties. And as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community themselves, they are very comfortable exploring different facets of identity and what that can mean to people in their own words.
