Clare Kane, Trainee Counsellor

Student Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)

I hold a degree in History and Sociology and am currently a second-year student in Person-Centred Counselling. I am also a registered student member of the BACP and deeply passionate about understanding people and their experiences.

As a Person-Centred practitioner, I am committed to supporting you as you explore your identity and past experiences. I believe that within the therapeutic relationship, you can empower yourself to create meaningful change. Person-Centred therapy provides a flexible, client-led approach that ensures you feel heard, valued, and in control of the process.

I have experience working with clients facing a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, self-esteem issues, and addiction. I approach therapy with the belief that everyone expresses their experiences in unique ways, and my role is to help you understand these expressions and how they fit into your broader life. From there, I can support you in making changes that align with your goals and aspirations.

My journey toward becoming a therapist began in 2018 when I trained as a peer support mentor at the University of Glasgow. Since then, I have gained qualifications as a mental health first aider and earned my COSCA Counselling Skills certificate. These experiences led to my acceptance into a diploma program for Person-Centred Therapy in 2023.

During my training, I completed a placement with Tayside Council on Alcohol (TCA), where I worked with individuals impacted by societal challenges, including substance misuse. This was a humbling and transformative experience, and I saw firsthand how compassion and self-understanding can empower individuals to change their relationship with substances. I value connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and believe that finding the right therapeutic fit is essential.
