Student Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)
Matthew grew up in a farming community in Northern Ireland before moving to St Andrews for university. He got married to Natasha after graduating with a BSc in Neuroscience and they recently welcomed their first child to the family. In his spare time he loves to play as many sports as possible, be that football, rugby, golf or anything involving a ball. He is also passionate about good food, both the cooking and the eating!
Since graduating, Matthew has worked in a pastoral role with undergraduate students in St Andrews and is passionate about helping people find hope and meaning amongst difficult life circumstances. He found that building trusting, empathic relationships which give space for people to talk is a powerful tool for both growth and giving dignity to those who are suffering. This experience led Matthew to seek out professional counselling training. He is currently in his second year of a masters degree with Abertay University after completing a short COSCA certified course with Vital Connexions in Edinburgh.
Matthew is keen to see each client as a unique individual with agency over their own growth and preferences on how to use each session. As a result, he is willing to collaboratively offer a wide variety of therapeutic methods in fitting with the needs of each individual.
